In the morning of February 10, DP Next Minister of Foreign Affairs Yukihisa Fujita and International Department Director-General Hiroe Makiyama briefed correspondents of U. S. and European media on Fujita’s recent visit to the United States (January 31 to February 6) in English, which was undertaken with the aim of following the movements of the newly launched Trump administration and building relationships with lawmakers close to President Trump.
Fujita explained that he had been the only Japanese lawmaker to participate in an international conference held in Washington for lawmakers from the U.S. and other countries around the world, and gave his impression of hearing President Trump make a speech firsthand. He talked about the contents of the President’s speech, as well as mentioning meeting with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and explaining about participants in the conference, who included the King of Jordan.
Both Fujita and Makiyama answered questions from the correspondents with the intention of aiding the foreign media’s understanding of the party’s foreign policy.
