On February 24, DP International Department Hiroe Makiyama visited the Embassy of Ireland and met with Ambassador Anne Barrington.
Makiyama expressed her appreciation to the Ambassador for agreeing to meet with her, and Barrington conveyed her thanks for Makiyama’s visit to the Embassy. Makiyama passed on a request from the DP Annual Convention organization committee (Chaired by DP member of the House of Councillors Hiroyuki Nagahama), asking Barrington to give a speech at the party convention scheduled for March 12. The Ambassador agreed to this request.
The convention organization committee were interested in the narrow gender gap in Ireland and election quota system, considering the importance that the DP places on gender equality issues, and this was the reason behind their request to Barrington.
The two also discussed negotiations between Japan and EU for an EPA and the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
