In the afternoon of March 24, DP President Renho met with Singapore Ambassador Chin Siat Yoon at party headquarters.

At the beginning of the meeting Chin expressed his appreciation to Renho for meeting with him and she in turn thanked him for his visit.

Chin said that Japan is Singapore’s second largest investor, and that the bilateral relationship would continue to be important to Singapore.  He expressed his hopes that Renho would continue to develop the friendly relationship between the two countries, following on from the DP’s previous leader, Katsuya Okada.  Renho responded, “We recognize the importance of ASEAN.  I would like to continue on with the friendly relationship.”

The two discussed a wide variety of policy issues including the question of the sale of state-owned land currently being debated in the Diet, relations with the U.S., infrastructure, energy, casinos, falling birthrate and immigration.

The meeting was also attended by International Department Director-General Hiroe Makiyama, who is acquainted with the Ambassador.  Makiyama spoke of her experiences visiting Singapore and investigating the way in which the port there is equipped.
