In the afternoon of May 19, DP President Renho met with Ambassador of Her Britannic Majesty's Embassy Paul Madden at party headquarters.
Renho congratulated Madden on his appointment as Ambassador, stated that Japan and the United Kingdom are nations that share the same values and said that she was following the campaign for next month’s UK general election with interest.
Madden was appointed as Ambassador this year. He described his impressions of Japan, which he had visited for the first time in 25 years. The two went on to discuss a variety of issues, including the participation of women in society, workstyles, the impact of falling birthrates coupled with an aging society, the Olympics and Brexit.
The meeting was also attended by Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs Yukihisa Fujita and International Department Director-General Hiroe Makiyama for the DP.
