In the afternoon of June 7, DP President Renho met with Australian Ambassador Richard Fairfax Court.
Renho welcomed Court’s visit, and referred to the joint statement criticizing North Korea that was issued following the recent meeting between the defense ministers of Japan and Australia She also explained the reasons between the DP’s opposition to this year’s revision of the Japan-Australia acquisition and cross-servicing agreement (ACSA), emphasizing that the party considered the relationship between Japan and Australia to be extremely important.
Following this, the two discussed a variety of issues including the role played by the Australian government’s program inviting young Diet members to Australia, irregularities regarding the deregulation within National Strategic Special Zones and concerns that administration of the zones is biased, and issues under discussion in the latter half of the Diet session such as the so-called “conspiracy law”, and the special measures law on the Imperial household relating to the Emperor’s abdication.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Secretary General Yuichiro Tamaki and International Department Director-General Hiroe Makiyama for the DP.
